Federal stimulus funds to accelerate construction on overpass connecting Microsoft campus

Posted by Benjamin J. Romano

Bloomberg's Dina Bass reports on $11 million of federal stimulus funds that will accelerate construction of a new bridge over Highway 520, connecting Microsoft's existing headquarters campus with the new campus nearing completion on the west side of the freeway.

The $11 million comes out of a $214 million stimulus pot being distributed by the Puget Sound Regional Council. Microsoft has agreed to pay about half the cost of the $36.5 million overpass at Northeast 36th Street, with federal and local government covering the rest. "Without the stimulus dollars, Microsoft would have had to kick in more money or wait longer," Bass reports.

The overpass will be a public facility and a Microsoft spokesman told Bass that the bridge will ease congestion in the area.
