Updated: Microsoft's September U.S. search share

Update, 2:42 p.m. Thursday: Turns out Bloomberg got its figures wrong, mistaking August numbers for July. So, where this post originally said Microsoft's Internet search share declined from August to September, it actually increased a bit.
Microsoft's share of the Internet search market in the U.S. declined again increased slightly in September, according to stats released today by comScore and reported here by Bloomberg.
The company, which continues to invest hundreds of millions in an effort to catch Internet search leader Google, is down to 8.5 percent of the market in September from 8.9 in August July. The September figure represents a slight uptick from August's 8.3 percent. In September 2007, Microsoft had 10.3 percent of the market.
Yahoo, meanwhile, had 20.2 percent of the market in September, up from 19.6 percent in August. But it, too, is down from a year ago, when its share was 23.7 percent.
Where did that share go? Google.
The search giant had 62.9 percent in September (down 0.1 percentage points from August), but up nearly six percentage points from its 57 percent share in September last year.
Silicon Alley Insider says there's renewed interest on Wall Street in a Yahoo-Microsoft search deal in light of the slow-going (or no going?) on Yahoo's proposed search ad tie-up with Google.
