More coverage of the future of Windows coming up this week
Posted by Benjamin J. Romano
I'm on my way to Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles. Check back here all this week for coverage of Microsoft's plans for Windows, cloud computing and more. I've covered some of the key challenges facing the Windows franchise as Microsoft charts the course forward in this story from today's paper. There's already a good discussion going on in the comments. I invite you to add your $.02.
Meanwhile, more details on Windows 7 are emerging, even before Microsoft's planned unveiling Tuesday. Mary Jo Foley has an inside track on features in the pre-beta build of the operating system that PDC attendees will get to take home with them.
Some features her sources are talking about:
-- "a central location for customers to more easily interact with devices"-- "a self-diagnosis feature"
-- new audio/video controls for PCs and devices
-- new animation features
-- new task bar and a user interface similar to the "ribbon" in Office 2007
