Report: Microsoft to ship Vista SP2 before Windows 7

Posted by Benjamin J. Romano

Mary Jo Foley's sources say Microsoft is working on a second service pack for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to be shipped before Windows 7, which is due in 2010.

Foley reports that Microsoft wants to hit this schedule, in part, to "lessen confusion among users as to whether to deploy Vista and Windows Server 2008 — or to wait for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (a k a Windows 7 Server)."

Foley also is reporting a public beta of Windows 7 is due in December. Microsoft is planning to give attendees at its Professional Developers Conference later this month beta code for the new operating system.
