Nintendo continues to widen console sales lead in July

Nintendo sold 555,000 Wii game consoles in July, according to U.S. market data just released by The NPD Group. The brought its total installed base in the U.S. to 11.4 million, more than 720,000 units ahead of Microsoft's Xbox 360, which sold the fewest units in July of the three current-generation consoles.
Nintendo also had five of the 10 best-selling games on its platform (four for Wii, one for the Nintendo DS portable).
The July sales figures, followed by life-to-date figures:
Sony PlayStation 3: 224,900; 5,083,000Microsoft Xbox 360: 204,800; 10,695,800
Nintendo Wii: 555,000; 11,418,000
