Microsoft to offer multimedia training on Holland America Cruise Lines

Posted by Benjamin J. Romano

Ballroom dancing, shuffle board, lounging on deck with a pina colada, hitting the buffet again and again. Great cruise activities. But you've got to be able to show it all off for the folks back home. To that end, Holland America Cruise Lines is bringing Microsoft aboard to offer digital media workshops on its ships.

From a press release the cruise company sent us today:

"With on-hand support from Microsoft 'techsperts,'" -- techsperts, really? -- "The Holland America Line Digital Workshop powered by Microsoft Windows will enable cruise guests to document their vacation memories while at sea. The workshops will teach passengers basic technology topics such as digital photography and basic video editing. Cruisers will also learn how to share digital content through email, blogging and social networking sites.

"Designated facilities on each Holland America Line ship will be equipped with the latest computers, monitors, and applications including Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Windows Live services."

Holland plans to debut the new amenity on its ms Amsterdam in Seattle on June 6 and expand it to all 14 of its ships in the next year and a half.

This isn't the first cruise company to take technology out for a sail. Recall that last year, Norwiegan Cruise Lines outfitted its entire fleet with Nintendo Wiis.

Update: Almost forgot to mention cruises devoted entirely to technology, like this one for Mac lovers.

Is access to technology something you're looking for in a cruise?
