Brazilian Kelly Santos signed by Storm

Posted by Jayda Evans

SantosPhoto.jpgIt's not a big free-agent signing, but Brazilian Olympian Kelly Santos (pictured far right by FIBA) was signed to the training-camp roster by the Storm this week. A three-year veteran, she averaged 2.1 points and 1.3 boards in 22 games for Seattle last season, taking time to compete with her national team in Beijing.

Santos was a bright spot off the bench last summer, along with C Ashley Robinson. At 6-foot-3 and 188 pounds, Santos was physical inside but, like Robinson, needs to work on her game to make a real impact. Santos also thought more time on the floor would make a difference. She averaged just 6.1 minutes and had to work fast to make positive plays to get that kind of time.

Storm coach Brian Agler, who is also the director of player personnel, said the team is still negotiating with Robinson, a restricted free agent. It's good that he's getting the bench secured. But the question marks in the post -- like who Tanisha Wright and Sue Bird will pick-and-pop to -- are only getting bigger as the season draws closer.
