It's not confirmed by the Storm or FSN, but supposedly the station picked up three more Storm games to air this month. I've already told you about Saturday's matchup against Los Angeles, which will be F Lauren Jackson's sendoff for the Olympics. That's listed on FSN's Web site to air beginning at 7 p.m. PST. But the station also has apparently picked up road games on July 20 in Washington (although the Mariners play that day) and July 22 (at 10 a.m. PST) in Minnesota.
FSN also is expected to carry the July 27 game against Sacramento at KeyArena, which will be G Sue Bird (USA) and F Kelly Santos' (Brazil) sendoff for the Olympic Games. I'm still waiting for official word from the team, but employees have been mouthy about the dates, so here's an early alert for those that can't make it to games.
And for those keeping count, if FSN does air all of these games, a likelihood since there won't be any money coming in from the NBA this year, it matches the amount shown last season. A date in September also is being discussed, which would put the Storm at six televised games -- its total in 2000.
Hopefully this calms all of the TV questions out there. It took a while because of the uncertainty involving the former Sonics, but these broadcasts should be worth the wait. And yes, tonight's game will not be aired. You'll have to tune in to Dick Fain and Adia Barnes on 1150 AM KKNW for that.
As a special treat, though, "NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad" will devote an entire show to the Storm on Saturday on ABC. The five starters took the program on tours of practice and the city and some old footage of the 2004 championship is supposed to be included. Here's the official release:
NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad devotes an entire upcoming show to the Seattle Storm....7/12/08 at 1 pm ET, 3PT on ABC-TV.
This week, NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad takes a behind the scenes look at the WNBA's Seattle Storm and its newly-assembled all-star lineup. The show takes a ride to practice with 3-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes as she talks about making a change in her career after a legendary run as a member of the Houston Comets. Cameras also catch up with 1999 MVP Yolanda Griffith, who adds experience to the Storm front line and gives viewers an all-access look at Storm practice. Two-time WNBA champion Swin Cash left the Detroit Shock for the Storm, and she visits a scenic overlook in Seattle to talk about her career transition. The heart and soul of the team remains the inside-out tandem of point guard Sue Bird and two-time MVP Lauren Jackson, and viewers will see how they've accepted all the new players into the fold. The show combines newly-shot all-access footage with a trip back through the NBA Entertainment archives for a rare look at this group of star players looking to make a run at the WNBA title. An inside look at the Seattle Storm...this Saturday, 7/12/08 at 1 pm ET, 3PT on ABC-TV.
