Brazil, featuring Storm F Kelly Santos and Atlanta F Iziane Castro Marques (pictured left), lost today 86-79 in overtime to Belarus in the quarterfinal round of the FIBA Olympic Qualifier tournament for women. I'll update this later on what's next for Brazil. The tournament is a last-chance effort for the final five Olympic berths.
In other Olympic news, Australia won an automatic berth by winning the World Championships title last year, but according to this article, the country faces an uncertain future with the sport.
UPDATE: Well, it seems Castro Marques benched herself in the second half of the loss because of a passionate fight with her coach during halftime. Apparently she's also dropped from the national team, meaning she will not be part of Brazil's final quest to advance to the Olympic Games against Angola on Saturday. Castro Marques had 12 points while Santos had a team-leading nine rebounds and six points today.
