Storm forward Kelly Santos and Iziane Castro Marques, a former Storm forward playing for Atlanta, checked in through their translator from Spain. The duo is trying to help Brazil qualify for the Beijing Games through the FIBA Olympic Qualifier Tournament for Women. Brazil killed in its opener today, defeating Fiji 125-45. Castro Marques led with 28 points while Santos added 15 in 20 minutes of play.
Castro Marques sends her love to Seattle. She said she misses the city and fans because everyone was so united and welcoming. Overall, she said she had a great experience playing for the Storm.
Brazil has a tough matchup against Spain on Wednesday to determine the winner of Group C. Yet, even if Brazil loses, they advance to the quarterfinals and are in the running for one of the five final Olympic berths.
