Ask anyone close to All-Star Lauren Jackson and they'll tell you she's really a shy person. And she is. The roughest part of today's practice for her was probably sitting on the sideline watching the throng of cameras and print media file into the training facility, all wanting to talk to her about one thing -- the magical 47.
She has dealt with the horde before (hello, Olympics and World Championships), but the shyness peeked out again when asked about the congratulatory calls. got received. Well, now they're text messsages, and she received 15 by Wednesday. And that's just from players in the league.
"I didn't know I had that many friends," she said with the brightest smile she's had this month.
Jackson has been in the limelight all week with the game, the Player of the Week and the feature spread in Sports Illustrated.
"It's great exposure for the team," she said. "Now, if we could only get some wins."
