So, you don't like the Doneeka Lewis pickup. After watching practice, I say give it two clicks before pressing send on that angry letter.
Lewis, who dropped the maiden Hodges upon marriage, is a better choice than second-year guard Shona Thorburn, who the Storm released after a seven-day contract to learn the system. Lewis is a fourth-year player and was forced to transition to the PG spot her second season in the league in order to get minutes. She looked good shooting and had one smooth pass to a cutting Janell Burse in the paint. She knows JB, also being from New Orleans, so some tough barriers are already broken.
Of course, the real question is why didn't Storm coach Anne Donovan, who's also director of player personnel, make this move in the first place. Any incoming PG would need time to learn the system and Lewis being more experienced (and a little more pricier) than Thorburn would give her the edge to pick it all up, to me. By this time she could have been a real asset because of the strong versatility.
Lewis doesn't know how she'll be played. She just knows she over packed for the four-game road trip and hopes she's not returning to her new home in Baton Rouge anytime soon.
