Cardinal congregation

Dominated by Connecticut and Tennessee players, WNBA fans may have to wait until Candice Wiggins enters the league to really get a Stanford overload again. But those associated with the Cardinal took center stage on Friday when U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was recognized as this season's recipient of the WNBA Inspirational Award.
Then a political science professor, Rice was named Stanford provost in 1993. So, she happily posed for pictures with Angela Taylor, Minnesota Lynx vice president of business development; Rennee Brown, WNBA vice president of player personnel; Jennifer Azzi, former San Antonio guard; and Sonja Henning, who was the Storm's inaugural staring point guard. They played at Stanford together, winning the NCAA title in 1990.
And speaking of Henning, who still hates to be interviewed, she bypassed her partner duties at her Portland law firm to become the associate director of U.S. sports marketing at Nike last month.
"Tonkon has always treated me fabulous, I had just made partner, but this was just a great opportunity," Henning said.
She hasn't made it up to Seattle for a Storm game yet this summer but was disheartened like most about the sell and possible relocation.
"I've heard so many different sides to it," said Henning, who's still physically ripped. "But the one thing I'm sure of is the Storm will be solid wherever they land. They will draw a great crowd because they're an excellent team."
