No, this isn't about Storm assistant Heidi VanDerveer or Sacramento coach Jenny Boucek, who's heading the Western Conference All-Star squad this weekend.
Actually it was Los Angeles coach Michael Cooper on the prowl before his team lost to Seattle on Tuesday. He pointed at forward Shyra Ely's black compression leggings during pregame warmups and shouted, "Hey! You know that's a fine, you can't wear that."
Ely quickly retorted, "Nope, medical clearance."
She has slight leg and knee soreness and passed the WNBA's medical statute to wear the gear. All-Star Lauren Jackson wanted to wear them to begin the season since they stave off her leg woes, which she hasn't experienced in months. But she hasn't had trouble in months, so she can't get the clearance.
Then what was up with the white legging covering her right leg Wednesday? She had lower hamstring soreness and it was the only quick remedy to get her on the court. She isn't expected to need it during the second half of the season, however. If so, she'll have to get the clearance.
