Mark Morris teammates Austin Brown and Matt Argyropoulos, and R.A. Long's Karlis Liepa were selected first-team members of the Class 3A/4A All-State baseball squad in a vote of the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association last weekend in Seattle.

Looking back
As the high school sports seasons come to an end, it is an appropriate time to look back. But either I'm just too old to remember, or I'm just too old to see anything, or I'm just too old to have the energy, or, forget it, you get the picture. So instead of rehashing the minutiae of the past sports year, I'll let the Seattle Times' Craig Smith do it for me. It's amazing how often Spokane schools and athletes do something memorable, when you consider we have about 20 percent of the state's high school athletes in the Inland Northwest.

There has been some talk around the office and in the community about the state allocation of entries in the State 4A/3A track meet. This is a subject (three berths vs. four as in past years) that has been on the front burner since the fall, but is bubbling over now because our region is so successful in track.

1. SCAC baseball
There are some talented 1A players this season, and they get together at one site today and Saturday at Larson Park in Moses Lake. River View is the top seed, led by Jordan Dallas, Ronnie Noel and Stevie Woods. But Warden has OSU-bound Jorge Reyes and stud Edward Rodriguez. Columbia-Burbank and Royal also have strong squads. Games today are 10 a.m., 1, 4 and 7 p.m.
2. Prep soccer
Pasco plays host to Mead at 7 p.m. today in a match to determine the region's third berth to the state 4A playoffs. Kamiakin and Ferris play in Spokane today for the No. 1 and 2 berths. Hanford plays Saturday at Bomber Field in Richland for the 3A Eastern Regional title.
5. Big Nine baseball
OK. The preliminaries are over. It's time for the main course. The toughest baseball conference in the state holds its two-day district tournament at Southridge and Davis on Friday, with games starting at 1 p.m. Everything moves to Davis on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Southridge, Richland, Kamiakin and Walla Walla join Davis and Wenatchee for this tourney.
7. 4A, 3A softball
On Saturday at Columbia Playfield, softball fans get a chance to see two tournaments: the Big Nine districts and the Mid-Valley League districts. Richland, Kamiakin and Hanford are some of the top teams.
