Sounders FC 1, UW 1 in reserve game
Posted by Jose Romero
Can't say for certain what was said, but coach Sigi Schmid had a long and what appeared to be animated discussion with his backups after the game at Starfire. That's a loss to the Timbers of USL-1 and a tie with a college team in the past two reserve games, and today Seattle just didn't finish a lot of chances.
Seattle's goal came in the fourth minute on a UW handball in the penalty area that resulted in a PK. Sebastien Le Toux buried it. Washington scored in 70th minute off a free kick.
Sounders FC starters:
Brown RD, Graham CD, Ianni CD, Wahl LD, Eylander GK, Nyassi RM, Sturgis CM, Vagenas CM, Zakuani LM, Forrest F, Le Toux F. In the 19th minute Graham got a bloody nose and needed three minutes to get it taken care of. Ianni drew a yellow card for grabbing and ripping a Husky's jersey. Jarrod Smith came on to start the second half in his first game action in a Sounders FC uniform, and Jared Karkas (D) and Roger Levesque (F) came on in the 56th minute as subs.
Smith replaced Zakuani and played in Forrest's spot with Forrest moving to Zakuani's midfield position.
Freddie Ljungberg and the starters came out to get in some side work and watch the match. Ljungberg brought his dog out to the fields and handed it to a team employee to watch while he took the field. See photo below.
