Montero fell into a trap, agent says - en español
Posted by Jose Romero
This story is out of El Tiempo, a news source in Colombia. It is in written in Spanish so I will summarize:
Thanks to Nick Schiffler for passing this on to me.
The report basically quotes an agent of Montero, Helmut Wennin, as saying that the allegations of rape Montero faces "is a matter of a woman trying to get famous at the expense of the young goal scorer."
More from Wennin: "Fredy hasn't done anything that any 21-year-old wouldn't do, and that's having an amorous relationship. As I understand it, the woman showed up in the early hours of the morning at his apartment on one occasion, and that doesn't speak well for her. It seemed like Fredy didn't want to continue the relationship. She didn't accept it and now she's trying to get him back."
Wennin went on to say that he has known Montero since he was a boy and never doubted his character for an instant.
"The team has given a lot of support, and we are completely certain that everything will clear up soon," he said.
Wennin said Montero didn't go to Toronto because of this matter, which would seem to indicate at least some withholding of information by Sounders FC although Montero was not feeling well Thursday, and that Montero's mindset is that he is very hurt and sad about the situation and now doesn't want to talk to media about anything not related to sports.
