Comings and goings
Posted by Jose Romero
There's a new goalkeeper with FC, Evan Bush, a teammate of Steve Zakuani's at Akron. Bush is a rookie and replaces Ben Dragavon on the roster. Dragavon, a Monroe native who spent all of camp with Seattle until this week, has left the team for a trial with the Austin Aztex of the USL First Division.
Speaking of Zakuani, I mentioned after the game Friday that he appeared to be in some ankle pain. Turns out he has a sprained ankle and didn't play Sunday but is with the team as it leaves for Argentina today.
Jhon Kennedy Hurtado is expected to meet the team in Argentina. The Colombian defender was signed last week.
SuperSearch winner Vini Oliveira wasn't the only player to be released last week. Trialists Densill Theobald and Kevin Forrest are also no longer with the team after very short stints. Forrest's rights belong to the Colorado Rapids.
As far as injuries besides Zakuani, here's an update from the team:
Osvaldo Alonso (ankle) and Taylor Graham (bottom of foot) are also expected to participate in Argentina. Jarrod Smith (hip flexor) will remain in Seattle. Peter Vagenas is recovering from arthroscopic surgery to trim articular cartilage above his knee. Freddie Ljungberg, who underwent surgery to repair a hip condition in December, continues to rehabilitate in Sweden. Both Vagenas and Ljungberg are expected to join the team for training in Seattle the week of March 9.
Finally, the schedule of matches in Argentina has yet to be set in stone. Games are scheduled for Friday, Saturday, next Tuesday and next Thursday. Practices (subject to change) are set for tomorrow, Thursday, next Monday and next Wednesday in Buenos Aires.
