SSFC 6, VC Fusion 1
Posted by Jose Romero
It's over down in Ventura, where Seattle trounced the PDL's Ventura County Fusion 6-1.
There will be a match report from the team later tonight, but here's some quick info gleaned from the Sounders FC Web site...
Starting Lineup for Seattle: GK Chris Eylander, D Evan Brown, D Tyson Wahl, D Patrick Ianni, D Nathan Sturgis, MF Steve Zakuani, MF Osvaldo Alonso, MF Brad Evans, MF Lamar Neagle, F Nate Jaqua, F Fredy Montero.
Two goals for Zakuani, two for Jaqua, one for Montero (two total in the preseason) and one for Roger Levesque.
Second-half Sounders FC starters: Eylander, Zach Scott, Taylor Graham, Ryan Caugherty, Quavas Kirk, Emerald George, MF Stephen King, Roger Levesque, Ryan Pore, Leighton O'Brien, Jeff Clark.
Khano Smith update: Smith spoke to a reporter with the Royal Gazette newspaper in Bermuda, telling the reporter that the trade to New York was the "ideal move" for him. I'll have more from Smith tomorrow, but all that's left is to announce the trade from Sounders FC to the Red Bulls as official.
Also I'm hoping to get a take on how Seattle looked tonight from an acquaintance of mine who plays for the Fusion.
The question of the U.S. national team playing a World Cup qualifier in Seattle is a fair one. I imagine it's possible, looking at the track record of how big-time soccer has come to this city numerous times before. It also makes sense from a Major League Soccer perspective -- gives the league anothe chance to showcase it's newest MLS city. Stay tuned on that. Seattle was in the running to get today's game, played in Columbus, so let's see if another play is made for a qualifier down the line.
