This is cool. It's for the upcoming reality TV show about choosing a player among 10 finalists to earn a spot on the team. Also see below; the LA Galaxy will be holding an open tryout, too
LA GALAXY TO HOLD THIRD ANNUAL OPEN TRYOUT FROM FEBRUARY 7-9
Applications Available Now at www.lagalaxy.com
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, January 5, 2009) - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club will hold their third annual Open Tryout from February 7-9 at The Home Depot Center. This year's tryout will again be open to male players 18 years of age or older who believe that they can perform at the MLS level. Galaxy Director of Soccer Paul Bravo, along with former Galaxy assistant coach Ralph Perez and select other Galaxy approved assessors, will oversee the trials.
Similar to previous years, applications for the event can be found at www.lagalaxy.com and space is again very limited. Registration costs $150 and all applicants must have a valid email address so that the club can communicate with them in advance of the tryout.
College players with any eligibility remaining are not permitted to participate in the tryout per NCAA rules and regulations, while current professional players must have a letter of release from their current club.
Last year's Open Tryout was a success with goalkeeper Vito Higgins being selected from the capacity group of more than 400 players from around the world who participated in the event. Higgins trained with the Galaxy for two weeks in the preseason before signing with the club in March. He appeared in one Reserve Division game and was an unused substitute for five games during the season.
In 2007, a capacity group of 800 players participated in the inaugural Open Tryout, with two players being selected to train with the Galaxy from that camp.
