Some of you might wonder how much a Major League Soccer player is paid. The short answer is not much, relative to other U.S. pro sports leagues.
A lot of MLS guys don't crack even $100,000 a year. The 2008 average was about $130,000. The highest-paid MLS player in 2008 was David Beckham of the Los Angeles Galaxy at $6.5 million, but his salary is unique as a designated player.
For Sounders FC in 2008, MF Sebastien Le Toux made $96,000 in guaranteed money, according to information from the league, and MF Sanna Nyassi, who became the third player to sign with Seattle, made the senior roster player minimum of $33,000. Both played for the USL Sounders but were on loan as players under contract to Sounders FC.
Here's a look at the 10 players the club selected in the expansion draft and the guaranteed money the received in 2008:
Nate Jaqua $174,125
Peter Vagenas $144,000
Nathan Sturgis $108,000
Jeff Parke $58,737.50
Khano Smith $46,305
Jarrod Smith $36,000
James Riley $33,000
Tyson Wahl $33,000
Brad Evans $33,000
Stephen King $17,700 (developmental player salary)
