From Sonics to Barons?
Posted by Jayda Evans
OK, Oklahoma has gone far enough. I understand the Sonics move may be imminent and the Okies should be thrilled they can sort of call themselves a "real" city by gaining the NBA. But the digital alteration of Kevin Durant with this story about the fans-in-waiting loving the idea of their new team being called the Barons laced in black and gold is sickening.
I'm trying to hold onto my objectivity, but it grows harder by the day. Sunday was the topper. I listened to Kevin Calabro call the Lakers game on the radio, remembered fondly with Ronny Turiaf used to play across the state and made it home from the Mariners game in time to see former Sonics F Kurt Thomas help San Antonio stave off New Orleans. Is this really the future of pro hoops in Seattle? I enjoy the Storm, but it's not enough to satisfy this basketball enthusiast.
Anyway, apparently this name game in OKC is a playoff of sorts. Nicknames Barons, Outlaws, Thunderbird, and Thunder have all advance to the Finals. The champion should be named May 16. At least we in Seattle know the real decision is still in June.
