Help is on the way/Wilcox out
Posted by Percy Allen
Because Earl Watson is doubtful to play tonight against Portland, Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said the team is expected to sign a point guard to backup Luke Ridnour. Not sure who that point guard will be, but it will not be Mike Wilks.
The coaching staff likes the journeyman guard, however, they signed him to a pair of 10-day contracts this season and if they bring him back, then they would have to sign him for the remainder of the season.
The Sonics have too many unknown variables to make a commitment like that to Wilks.
For starters, the team will learn today how long they will be without Chris Wilcox, who re-injured his right pinkie last week. He's missed the past two games and will not play tonight. He'll also see a hand specialist this afternoon.
Swingman Mickael Gelabale will also see a specialist and will set a date for his knee surgery. Carlesimo said Gelabale's recovery will affect his free agency more than his lack of playing time or unknown potential.
C Francisco Elson (sprained knee) is expected to play tonight and Kevin Durant, who received treatment Sunday on a pair of sprained ankles, is also probable.
And finally, a Sonics PR spokesman said the team is aware that there will be a possible protest tonight and has "taken the appropriate security measures."

It would be nice to see Will Conroy in a Sonics uniform. I'm interested to see whom the team will sign.
