Wilcox out, Bennett plays swanky host
Posted by Jayda Evans
The Supes just wrapped up shoot-around and F Chris Wilcox did not participate. He will not start tonight. F Nick Collison should replace him in the lineup. Without Wilcox, the Sonics have 10 available players. In case you missed it, Francisco Elson (right knee sprain), Mickael Gelabale (right knee sprain), and Robert Swift (torn right meniscus) are back in Seattle.
Because Gelabale is out for the season, Sonics management is contemplating signing another player to a 10-day contract. But Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said the team probably wouldn't do that until after the two-game road trip. He's hopeful vet Adrian Griffith can provide some minutes, that Wilcox can return for the game against Utah on Saturday, and that PG Earl Watson can stretch out more minutes at SG in the back-to-back.
Owner Clay Bennett and GMs Sam Presti and Scott Perry are on the trip, staying in the same hotel as the team. Bennett is wooing the big-time sponsors invited to LA. He hosted a posh steak dinner in Santa Monica on Thursday and will host the sponsors and their families in a suite tonight at the game.
Watson, and rookie Kevin Durant and Jeff Green attended Thursday's gathering, along with Carlesimo. But Bennett didn't divulge anything more to the group than what he's been saying all along. To paraphrase a source, the team is off to OKC.
