Lakers game thread
Posted by Jayda Evans
NO TACOS: Watson just scored so there will be no tacos for the sellout crowd. Small victories for the Supes, I guess. They lost their 10th consecutive game 130-105.
NEWBLE PLAYS: Newble just entered the game with the Sonics down 122-99. Everyone is screaming for free tacos, meaning the Lakers have to hold the Sonics scoreless in the final three minutes.
NEW TEAM: The Lakers signed Ira Newble to a 10-day contract today. He was waived by Seattle on Feb. 29 after being acquired via trade from Cleveland.
WATSON BACK: Watson is on the bench with his finger taped, no word on the results of the X-ray. UPDATE: X-Rays were negative and Watson is back on the court.
WATSON OUT: Watson is having his left ring finger X-rayed. He injured it in the third quarter. Supes are down 76-64.
GELLY MISSED: Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo spoke about Mickael Gelabale at shoot-around, saying he felt "terrible" about the injury and that it hurts Gelly because his minutes have doubled (20.5 in past five games) and he's been playing well. "Quality minutes, particularly in the meat of the game, is a good opportunity," Carlesimo said. "Probably more so because of his contract situation and us looking at it him, but also because he was playing well and deserved it. And, forgetting all of that, an injury is an injury. Obviously you don't want to go through something like that."
QUE PASO?: Comedian George Lopez just walked by press row and shushed the crowd giving him shout-outs. He's the only celeb I've spotted outside of the regulars.
BENNETT IN THE HOUSE: Clearly wanting to keep the sponsorship money rolling when he relocates to OKC< Bennett has about 20 people in a third-level suite. Word is the layout is nice.
EASY NOW: C Mo Sene made a nice tip-jam, but when he turned to run up court, he clearly didn't have control of his body and plowed into Sasha Vujacic football style. No foul was called, which irked the Staples Center crowd. Sonics trail 47-33.
OH NO: Odom was all over the place in the opening quarter, stripping rebounds from KD's hands and forming a wall that Green bounced off of when attempting a shot. He finished with 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 34-21 advantage.
DRIED BONES: So, is it cruel to start off by telling you how I got to soak up the 75-degree weather here in LA? Heard y'all got some rain or something. OK, I'll stop. But it was sweet to experience an actual spring.
