Final thoughts
Posted by Jayda Evans
This is what happens when you blow up a roster. I want to be on your side as far as problems with Coach P.J. Carlesimo and the rotations, but I don't think y'all aren't getting the point. Carlesimo is here to teach and develop the younger players and I think he's doing that.
He also needs to keep peace with the veterans and that is not happening. Some were giving management an earful following the 24-point loss to Memphis while others have noted many times that since they're in the twilight of their careers, they'd rather be playing to win and not to develop.
That's what makes the season so frustrating. I'm not saying tonight's outcome would have been different, but just think if Carlesimo did the reverse and started Jeff Green to begin the season and then flipped the rotation now as opponents are playing harder. You'd have a veteran defensive-minded rotation that could win some games and a solid rookie that can contribute off the bench. But, again, that's if you're playing to win and the Sonics are not.
Still, giving up 370 points in their past three games is unacceptable. Anyone can play defense. That's just heart. And the Sonics aren't showing any. Whether it's trade rumors, unhappiness with minutes, or uncertainty regarding the relocation of the franchise, they need to ignore the fringe issues and at least play on that end. It's still their job and I know the Sonics can do better than this.
