Learned that Sonics owner Clay Bennett sold the Storm and it will be announced at an 11 a.m. press conference on Tuesday. This can be taken two ways for the Sonics, but I'm guessing it's another clue that the team is off for Oklahoma City. One source alluded to Bennett beginning to feel the money drain from legal battles and the faulty KeyArena lease, selling off the Storm for quick cash. The Sonics move under a bigger microscope now, that's for sure.
Heard plenty of rumors tonight about potential owners. Some feel former Sonics president/owner Wally Walker and/or part of the Howard Schultz group that didn't want to sell is resurfacing. Included in that bunch could be Jack Rodgers, Schultz's close friend. When I asked Rodgers about buying the team last summer, hr laughed the question off and said all efforts should be behind supporting Bennett in keeping the teams local.
Well, WNBA teams have sold from $10 to $12 million. That could be a version of "backing" Bennett.
The Storm's new ownership group appears to have multiple members and one is believed to be a woman.
