KJR-AM: Ken Lucas to line up with first unit
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The other really newsworthy tidbit that came out of Jim Mora's interview with Mitch Levy on KJR-AM on Friday morning was that Ken Lucas will be a first-unit cornerback beginning with this weekend's minicamp.
Josh Wilson was the starting right cornerback by the end of last season, but Lucas -- an eight-year veteran -- will be in the first-unit lineup on Friday opposite Marcus Trufant.
"When he walks in here tomorrow for practice, Kenny will line up with the first group at right corner," Mora said Wednesday on KJR-AM. "And that didn't sit real well with Josh, but that's what I love about Josh is his competitiveness. But I wanted to be honest, and I wanted to be fair with Josh and I wanted to give Josh a chance to compete and we will give him a chance to compete and the better man will play.
"But Kenny has a pretty impressive body of work in this league, and you know what, we're not going to play games. We're going to put him in there."
Kelly Jennings is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and won't be ready to practice until training camp.
Lucas played the past four seasons in Carolina. He agreed to a short-term contract with the Seahawks earlier this week.
"He's got a little chip on his shoulder because of what happened to him this offseason," Mora said. "He got cut, he was on the open market for a while and I think he has something to prove and that'll give us a chance to get his best."
