Joe Jurevicius may have been released after failed physical
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The Browns released Joe Jurevicius on Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent. However, it's possible that Jurevicius was released after failing a physical examination. That was the designation used when the Seahawks released Marcus Tubbs last year during training camp last year.
Jurevicius underwent knee surgery after the 2007 season and subsequently contracted a staph infection and was unable to play in 2008. So even though Cleveland released him, it is not a foregone conclusion that he would be ready to play in 2009.
Update: Mike Sando of ESPN.com confirmed that Jurevicius did fail his physical, but he also points out something worth noting:
"That doesn't necessarily tell us much about the nature of his condition. Players fail physicals associated with their releases quite routinely."
