Seahawks sign defensive tackle Colin Cole

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Colin Cole, a 335-pound defensive tackle from the Green Bay Packers, has signed with Seattle. Terms of the deal are unavailable.

Adam Schefter of the league's television network reported it's a five-year deal.

Cole is the first player the Seahawks have signed in free agency and he is a big body to place alongside Brandon Mebane in the starting lineup. That probably doesn't leave room in the Seahawks' plans for Chris Canty, but I'll check to see if he's still scheduled to visit.

Update: Canty's visit is canceled so Cole is the player the Seahawks had zeroed in on for the defensive line. The roster now includes Mebane and Cole presumably the starters with Craig Terrill and Red Bryant reserves, and Howard Green still a possibility to return. He is an unrestricted free agent.
