Report that Casey Bradley to be new Seahawks new defensive coordinator is premature

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Michael Lombardi of the Web site National Football Post reported that Casey Bradley has been hired to be the Seahawks new defensive coordinator.

That's not the case yet. The Seahawks have another candidate in for interviews today. I haven't been able to figure out who that candidate is, but Mel Tucker -- Cleveland's defensive coordinator -- is scheduled to be here later this week.

Here's a link to the report from The National Football Post. Lombardi is a former personnel executive with the Raiders and most recently worked with the Broncos, and Bradley is regarded as a fast-rising coach who may end up being the Seahawks' choice as a defensive coordinator, but that decision has not been made yet.

Tim Ruskell answered questions from reporters Thursday afternoon, and said that there were no agreements with any new assistants other than Greg Knapp to be the offensive coordinator. Knapp's hiring was officially announced by the team Thursday afternoon.

Ruskell also said that tight ends coach Jim Lind special-teams assistant John Jamison are the two assistants who have informed the team that they will not be returning. Ruskell said that none of the other assistants have been informed they will not be retained.

"It's a process and we're going through it and we want to do it right and be fair," Ruskell said. "This is the hard time. This is a hard time for everybody, but we're going to put together the best possible staff we possibly can."

Ruskell was then asked if the process could be summarized as an attempt to interview candidates and see if anyone is better available.

"Basically, that's fair," Ruskell said. "That's fair to say."

Ruskell said that some assistants will be retained, but did not specify which ones other than Mike Solari, the offensive line coach.

"He'll be here," Ruskell said.

As for Gil Haskell, the offensive coordinator for the past nine years, is there any possible role for him now that Knapp is aboard?

"There's consultant jobs that you see around the league and offensive assistant is a title," Ruskell said. "That's something that he and Jim will have to work out. That's not unheard of. It's actually quite common for guys to go in those type roles so that's out there."
