Game thread, Seahawks at Cowboy

Posted by Danny O'Neil

That will be all for the game thread: I'll be back with some post-game thoughts.

Julius Jones returned to the game in the fourth quarter.

Flag football: Cornerback Josh Wilson was called for his second penalty for illegal hands to the face, a mild surprise considering that at Wilson's height he had to reach up pretty high to get into an opponent's grill. The first penalty gave Dallas a first down in the first quarter. The second penalty was called in the third quarter and declined by Dallas.

Oh, and Dallas just scored its fourth touchdown of the game on a 19-yard pass to Terrell Owens, who was defended by linebacker Julian Peterson on the play with no safety providing help over the top.

Leroy Hill is on the sidelines in a sweatshirt, no shoulder pads. He won't be returning from the shoulder injury he suffered in the first quarter. Marion Barber has returned to the game in the third quarter.

Another score for the MVP of this Seahawks season: That would be kicker Olindo Mare, who kicked his third field goal of the game.

Cowboys 24, Seahawks 9

Second-half injury updates: RB Julius Jones has a head injury, and his return is questionable. It probably becomes even more questionable given Maurice Morris' quick start in the second half.

Also, Dallas running back Marion Barber suffered a bruised right foot. His return is questionable.

Break out the bags: That appears to be the Cowboy approach that has racked up five sacks in the first half. That matches the most sacks Seattle has given up in any game this season. The Bills also finished with five sacks.

Seattle drove the ball to the Dallas 10 then gave up two sacks over the next three plays including one where DeMarcus Ware completely faked out left tackle Walter Jones to the point Jones didn't even get one of his oven-mitt paws on Ware, who ran around for the sack.

Ware has two sacks. So does Bradie James and Tank Johnson each have one sack.

And in the 27th minute, the Cowboys punted: Yes, it happened. I saw it. Dallas scored on each of its first four possessions, but was forced to punt the fifth time it had the ball.

Matt Hasselbeck's playing pretty good: not that anyone would notice. But he completed six of eight passes in that first quarter.

Cowboys on parade: There's a sequence in early in "White Men Can't Jump" in which Wesley Snipes and Kadeem Hardison argue over the correct pronunciation of, "It's too easy."

It's TOOOOO easy.

or

It's too EAAASY.

I imagine that same argument could be taking place on the Cowboys sideline in the second quarter. The Cowboys have had the ball three times, they've scored three touchdowns, totaling 223 yards in 22 plays. Yes, that's right. Dallas is gaining an average of more than 10 yards every time it snaps the ball.

Dallas 21, Seattle 3.

First-quarter summary: Well, Tony Romo completed his final seven pass attempts of the first period for 118 yards and a touchdown and Dallas has faced only one third-down play so far. It appears they could moonwalk down the field against the Seahawks defense if they chose to do so.

Dallas 14, Seattle 3.

Walter Jones beaten for a sack and we pause for a moment to marvel at just how seldom that happens. Coach Mike Holmgren chewed on Floyd Womack when the Seahawks offense came off the field after Olindo Mare kicked a 44-yard field goal in the final minute of the first quarter. That's easier than yelling at Jones, who is always counted upon to erase the right defensive end all by himself. In this case, that's Demarcus Ware who is one of the very best pass rushers in the league.

In this case, Ware bull-rushed right at Jones, hit him and then bounced outside. Jones didn't recover in time and Ware had himself an 8-yard sack.

Drawn and quartered: Marion Barber scored on a second-down draw, running untouched up the middle for a 2-yard touchdown run. Leroy Hill was injured on the play before that when he collided with Barber on a first-and-goal play from the 1. It was a ferocious collision and Hill came off the field, his right arm held tightly to his side.

Hill suffered a shoulder injury on the play. His return is questionable.

Dallas' second drive went 72 yards in nine players. Two Cowboy possessions have gained 143 yards and scored two touchdowns. Romo has completed his last five pass attempts for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Julius Jones fumbled away Seattle's first possession, which was recovered by Anthony Henry at the Dallas 28. Jones used a lot of swear words when he came off the field according to my amateur lip-reading skills. The fumble ended a drive in which the Seahawks had a pair of clutch receptions from a receiver wearing No. 83. That's Deion Branch for anyone who's forgotten after he played only one half in the first eight games this season.

The coin toss could be the turning point of this one. Dallas won the toss, took the ball and drove it 71 yards in 2 minutes, 25 seconds and scored the first touchdown of the game. That took all of 2 minutes, 24 seconds. Dallas 7, Seattle 0.

I don't know what's worse - the inability to score in the red zone or the Jonas Brothers at halftime.  Posted on November 27, 2008 at 4:27 PM by good ol' george. Jump to comment
Fire Ruskell immediately. This is his defense. He needs to be held accountable. The Cowboys could walk and still score on us!!!  Posted on November 27, 2008 at 1:52 PM by Danjsloan. Jump to comment
This is the worst I have ever seen these guys play. Is there any heart or pride left in this team, this is embarrasing. Happy Thanksgiving Hawks....  Posted on November 27, 2008 at 1:56 PM by frustratedhawk. Jump to comment
