Patrick Kerney to undergo surgery

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Patrick Kerney will undergo surgery, coach Mike Holmgren said.

The operation will take place in Alabama this week, that much is certain. How long Kerney is out will depend upon what doctors find in his shoulder.

It could be something relatively minor that is causing the pain, Holmgren said. In that case, Kerney would be out a couple of weeks.

Or it could be Kerney tore the labrum in his shoulder for the second time in 2008, and the procedure to repair his shoulder would end his season. Kerney tore the labrum in his left shoulder during the Seahawks' playoff victory over Washington in January. He played in the Seahawks' playoff loss in Green Bay and underwent surgery to repair his shoulder after the season, missing the Pro Bowl.

Kerney is leading the Seahawks with five sacks.

In other injury updates:

  • Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck could return to practice this week after missing the past four games because of a back injury causing weakness in his legs. But even if Hasselbeck does practice, Holmgren did not sound optimistic he will be able to play in Sunday's game in Miami.

  • Tight end Will Heller might be able to play this week. He has been out since suffering a sprained knee at the end of the Seahawks' loss to Green Bay on Oct. 12.

  • Defensive tackle Red Bryant suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out for at least a few weeks.

  • Fullback Leonard Weaver should be OK to practice on Wednesday, and Holmgren also said he hopes linebacker Lofa Tatupu will be able to practice on Wednesday when Seattle begins preparation for Miami.

  • Deion Branch has not done anything other than rehabilitation work for the past two weeks, but he will have his injured heel tested this week. If he can work out on the heel without experiencing swelling and soreness the next day, he will be on course to return to practice this week.

This season is a total bust. I had a tiny bit of hope after the San Fran win 2 weeks ago, being only 2 games out with 2 to play against Arizona, but...  Posted on November 4, 2008 at 8:52 AM by CTHAWKFANN. Jump to comment
If we ever got to see Deion Branch play it would be a lot easier to decide if we should cut him.  Posted on November 3, 2008 at 11:48 PM by ballhawk38. Jump to comment
