Jason Babin gone from roster, Walter Jones to miss practice

The Seahawks needed to make room for newly acquired Keary Colbert, and they did so by letting Jason Babin go. Babin was in his second year with the Seahawks after he was acquired in a trade from Houston for Michael Boulware in 2007.

The Seahawks are going to add WR Trent Shelton to the practice squad, and will not add a quarterback.

The players who aren't expected to practice today: LT Walter Jones, RB Maurice Morris, WR Bobby Engram, QB Seneca Wallace, CB Kelly Jennings. Jones and Jennings will return to practice later this week. Jennings suffered a broken rib during Sunday's loss to San Francisco, and Jones had something happen to his hip or lower back, coach Mike Holmgren said. Jones got up slowly after quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was knocked into him from behind in the fourth-quarter sack on the Seahawks' final possession of the game.

"He'll be OK," Holmgren said of Jones.

Koren Robinson could factor in as a kickoff returner. Holmgren said Michael Bumpus will continue in his role as a punt-returner so for those keeping score at home, consider that call a complete muff on my part as I didn't expect the Seahawks to use Bumpus in that capacity after promoting him from the practice squad.

The Seahawks have two healthy quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, none on the practice squad. Holmgren said the idea of adding a quarterback was discussed, but that the need for players at wide receiver for the purposes of the scout team trumped the desire to add a quarterback. Seattle signed Trent Shelton to the practice squad.
