Koren Robinson: "I want to apologize"
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Koren Robinson just spoke on a conference call with Seattle reporters, and his reintroduction began with an apology.
"I want to apologize to the fans of Seattle," Robinson said. "I apologized to coach Holmgren and my teammates."
Robinson played four seasons with Seattle after the Seahawks chose him with the No. 9 overall pick, and his final season included one league suspension for four games and benched a game by coach Mike Holmgren.
Robinson said he has lived a sober lifestyle since August 2006, which was the date of a DUI arrest in Minnesota.
Did he ever think he would come back?
"I did not just because of the terms and the circumstances that I left Seattle," Robinson said. "I never would think that I would be back."
President Tim Ruskell said he was initially against bringing Robinson back.
"Initially, I was against it just because everybody knows what our commitment is in terms of character," Ruskell said.
That opinion changed starting with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck telling Ruskell about seeing Robinson at a retreat in the offseason. Ruskell's opinion further changed after Will Lewis, the team's pro personnel director, went to meet with Robinson.
Only after that would Ruskell sign off on the addition.
As for the potential criticism that the Seahawks compromised their standards for player behavior because of the dire straits the team faces because of injury?
"If this was the Koren we left four years ago, that would be warranted," Ruskell said. "This was a lot of talking. This was a lot of research ... But Koren's a good person ... All of us believe in second chances, but this could be a good story and Koren wants that."
