Logan Payne out for year, Seneca Wallace to miss 3-4 weeks
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Coach Mike Holmgren said Logan Payne was diagnosed with a torn medial-collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee and will be placed on injured reserve, thereby ending his season.
Quarterback Seneca Wallace suffered a strained calf, a tricky injury, and Holmgren expects him to miss three to four weeks.
The other injury from Sunday's game is Kelly Jennings, the cornerback who suffered a broken rib. He had an injection at halftime and finished the game. He won't practice much this week, but is expected to be available for the game against St. Louis.
Update at 3:32 p.m.: Coach Mike Holmgren also said it was possible right tackle Sean Locklear would be able to play in this week's game.
"He has a chance," Holmgren said. "He is improving. They had him doing stuff. Hopefully he can maybe even practice a little bit this week. But until he practices, we don't want to throw him out there. Ray Willis had a good game. Ray is holding his own out there."
Holmgren said the team may look to add a quarterback at least for the practice squad.
As for Deion Branch?
"I keep telling you the same thing only because I don't know for sure," Holmgren said. "It's a little in Deion's court. Again, that situation hasn't changed. That's day to day and I think he's feeling better every day. He'll probably do a little bit more in practice this week. But whether he'll be ready for the Rams, I don't know. If he is not, I certainly hope he'll be ready after the bye."
Wallace was in a boot and on crutches in the locker room. He will be out three to four weeks because of a strained calf suffered in warmups.
"I felt like somebody shot me from out of the stands," Wallace said. "I got shot in the calf. I felt a big pop on the calf muscle."
Wallace was limited in practice on Wednesday because of a tight hamstring. He had not had previous trouble with his calf.
"Maybe the correct thing to say is that I wasn't physically probably ready to be playing wide receiver," Wallace said.
He picked up on that train of thought.
"Maybe I added a little bit more pressure to myself because I wanted to help the team out," Wallace said. "I wanted to perform and help the team out. You got to be patient with somem thing and I rushed it a little bit."
