More June camp wrap-up
Posted by Jose Romero
DE Patrick Kerney looks like he'll be ready for training camp, the way he was hitting a blocking sled off to the side of practice today.
Other practice observations: WR Jordan Kent ended the June camp on a positive note, the capper to what was a very good camp for the second-year pro from Oregon. Kent ran a good comeback route for a catch during the hurry-up offense drill to finish practice, then got back up and hustled back to the line of scrimmage...DT Larry Tripplett beat his man in one-on-one pass rush drills for a sack...CB Marcus Trufant intercepted a pass intended for WR Joel Filani, turning around and jumping in front of Filani to get the ball...RB Julius Jones, in a scene that could have made some forget about Shaun Alexander, ran a short pass route, turned around in time to see Matt Hasselbeck's thrown and laid out for a diving catch near the sideline.
Holmgren was asked about WR Bobby Engram's earlier statement about possibly missing some training camp in protest of his current contract. Holmgren said he guesses it's a possibility that Engram will do so, but the coach still believes Engram will report to camp on time.
"I would hope that he wouldn't miss too much time if he misses any at all. Right now, I'm saying the glass is half-full," Holmgren said.
Holmgren said he felt DT Rocky Bernard, who is coming off of offseason surgery, moved around better today in practice than earlier this week
Holmgren expects some good positional battles for jobs at running back, tight end and wide receiver. He feels the offensive line is pretty much settled. On defense, he wants to wait until players work out in pads before decisions will be made at defensive tackle. He's looking for depth at linebacker to back up the three starters, and expects right cornerback Kelly Jennings to get some competition for his job.
