44 days until training camp starts
Posted by Jose Romero
And 41 days until it's Rookie Report Day. That's the amount of time the Seahawks will have between now, with their June mini-camp having concluded moments ago, to the next time the team reconvenes.
Coach Mike Holmgren had some parting words for the team in an extended post-practice wrapup on the field, then shared some of those thoughts with reporters.
By the way, Holmgren quelled all questions about his health and details of his "minor medical procedure" with the following opening statement:
"Before the first question gets asked, I didn't die. I had a little surgery done on Monday so that's all I'm really going to say about that. I'm not going to go into great detail. I just need a little time to recover...and I'm all set."
Now back to the parting thoughts:
-On what happens next: "It's important the coaches take some time off and kind of recharge their batteries just a little bit. They've been working awful hard. The new guys have to get their families out here. There are a couple of things now we have to do between now and July."
-On his message to the team: "All the hard work that they put in to be in the type of shape that they're in for these camps now, they have to continue that. Even though they're not right under our watch...Our rehab guys, the guys who haven't practiced, we're counting on them to come back. Most of them are supposed to be able to participate in training camp. It's very important that they come back. There's good football players standing around watching practice. Thirdly...they've got to kind of get away from football a little. I want them feeling fresh and emotionally ready to come in and get ready to have a great year."
-On those players who will not be ready for camp: "[Deion] Branch is one. I'm a little more optimistic about [DT Marcus] Tubbs. [P Ryan] Plackemeier."
Holmgren hopes Plackemeier can be fully recovered from surgery for a torn pectoral muscle by the first week of the regular season.
