Taking a moment for Gary Wright
Posted by Jose Romero
Many of you might not know Gary, or may have just recently learned of his retirement from the Seahawks organization after 32 years of service.
That's 3-2, as in as long as the team has been in Seattle.
Gary is the outgoing Seahawks' vice president of administration. He was honored by the team Sunday in an event at Qwest Field.
Gary has been public relations VP and the team's director of public relations. Over my six seasons on this beat, I've had the pleasure of working with and talking to Gary as have all the other writers and reporters who cover this team. And Gary has always brought class, commitment, integrity and high effort into his dealings with myself and others, I'm sure.
So this space is set aside to show appreciation for Gary for a job well done, but it's not like he is leaving the sports business entirely. Gary has been named Seattle Sounders FC's senior vice president of business operations. A perfect job for him, knowing how much he enjoys soccer. I had a conversation with him about his travels to Spain and the top soccer clubs over there, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, and by the end of it he had sold me on the idea of traveling there one day and seeing some world-class soccer.
