Rob Sims unplugged
Posted by Jose Romero
Here's more of my talk with Rob Sims on Tuesday. You can read the story I wrote on Sims today on the Times' Web site.
On new offensive line coach Mike Solari:
"He's very, very thorough. I was kinda sitting in the training room and he came to me and said 'We got a lot of work to do.'...He's just one of those guys, he's intense and he really cares. After I had my surgery he called me every single day, talked to my mom. I haven't had that kind of stuff since high school. He cares about his players. His aspiration for me, he told me he wants me to go to the Pro Bowl. It's one of those things where it's just good to have somebody that's in your corner."
On the new-look running game:
"It's a new deal. We're falling in love with Julius Jones. With T.J. Duckett there and the guys up front, man, it's starting to fit. Nobody feels like anybody's bigger than anybody else. It's one of those things like we're just going to work. You look at the guys in the huddle now, there's some young guys, there's some old guys, some guys have been here the median time, everybody's starting to feel each other and I think when we get going it's really going to be special."
On his third year in the league:
"I still expect more. I just don't think getting in there and playing and starting is enough. I feel like I work hard enough. I feel like I'm challenging enough, I study hard enough that it's time to go to the next level."
The teachers Sims honored on Tuesday had some decent questions, one of which was if there is any player that Sims absolutely doesn't like to go against.
Sims dodged the question but in the end admitted that he is not a big fan at all of Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, a player with a reputation for overaggressive play who went to the Pro Bowl last season. Speaking of Dockett, here's an update on his situation with the Cardinals, where apparently he is unhappy with his contract.

That is an interesting comment about T.J. Duckett. The way the quote is presented, it sounds like he is talking about Duckett playing as a fullback in front of Julius Jones.

ya i caught those two things as well he did seem to alude to someone feeling that they were "bigger" than someone else i would put my money on alexander. The duckett thing he may have been referencing him as a tailback running behind weaver i think he just mentioned them because their the new guys.

I'm optimistic that Sims and Chris Spencer can continue to develop as they head into another year. Sims sounds like he has the right mentality to take his game to another level.
Reading between the lines, did Sims allude to S.A. by saying nobody feels bigger than anybody else and the running game starting to fit?
