Tight end interest? Shockey-ing

Posted by Danny O'Neil

The New York Daily News reports that Seattle is one of two teams pursuing tight end Jeremy Shocky, the 27-year-old Giants tight end who was injured and missed last season's Super Bowl run. Here's a link to the story right here.

Now, Seattle does have a void at starting tight end with Jeb Putzier and Will Heller right now on the roster. Marcus Pollard, last season's starter, signed with the New England Patriots this week.

And there is the possibility the Giants would part ways with Shockey, who has been injury-prone. The offensive did more than all right without him last season, winning the Super Bowl after he went down.

Does that mean Seattle's making a push to acquire him? I haven't been given any indication that's the case. The Giants obviously would be interested in drumming up a market right now. If a trade is going to happen, it's going to be before the draft. Logically, they would want to get as much in return as possible. Don't be holding your breath waiting for Seattle to add him.

Why not add him? The Saints are rumored to be offering a second round pick. Why not offer our's and see what happens? There is no TE in the draft with the skill set Shockey has and any rookie will nedd time to adjust to the pro game. Shockey has always been vocal about winning and is a high producing player. If we can get him without giving up a first round pick I say why wait. We want to win thw Super Bowl and one of our biggest weaknesses can become one of our greatest strengths.

GO HAWKS!!!!!

Would a 3rd Round pick get it done? Maybe a 4th?

I think JS would make one of greatest strengths weaker - locker room chemistry would be shot, a la the other JS we jettisoned.

With the type of person he is it wouldn't make sense that we would want him. He is a cancer and his team was better without him. I would take Chad Johnson and a rookie TE anyday over that douche bag

I agree, duce duce. I've lived in NYC over 10 years and find Shockey one of the most annoying, destructive sports figures in town.

He is the quintessence of douche baggery.

No Jermey Shocky NOR Chad Johnson

They don't fit in this kind of team - PERIOD!

Both sucks - whiners - cry babies..

I would stick with Will Heller - he's perfectly fine..he'll bloom with good numbers especially his size is perfect..

Will Heller has trouble catching a cold and cannot stretch a defense because he has NO speed.

That said, I don't think there is any way that Ruskell pursues Shockey...this has to be a smokescreen to hide Ruskell's true intentions or a fabricated story by the Giants to artificially inflate Shockey's value.

if its a 3rd or 4th round pick i am cool with it but if it's a whole lot like a 1st rounder for deon then its not worth it

shockey has the attitude of a teenage girl if things are not good for him he will rip the whole team to get his point.

this being said i would trade all the hawks picks for Shockey and Chad Johnson except a 7th rounder to get Serna

it would be fun

shockey would be risky but may pay off huge!!!

Locker-room cancer's have changed their ways when they know their careers are on the downside and they've been humbled.

I would trade a 2nd or 3rd Round pick and add a superior TE to this offense in Shockey, spend the 1st and 2nd Rd picks on other positions, together with our revamped running game-- and we could be talking Super Bowl again!

I'm not sold on the available TE's in the draft (too many question marks)...and the way things look, however better than last year, we are not a Super Bowl team yet. Add Shockey and use our draft picks to get quality guys at other positions of need (WR, OL or D-line) and we are back baby!

YA i would say no to shockey hes talented but we dont need another injury prone player we just got rid of alexander for that reason. Also rember him when the seahawks were playing the giants in 05 and he did his little dance into the camera for what he thought was a game winning field goal and it missed and we won the game. thats the kind of player he is a show off not good for the locker room.

trade all our picks for 2 players LOL come on man use ur brain. You dont want shockey like you dont want Darell jackson. We are set up in the draft where we might be able to luck out with fred davis in the second round(which really would be a merry xmas) theirs two potential pro bowlers in this draft in davis and keller, dont mortgage the future for someone who drops passes, and whines like my lil bro. theirs too many needs for this team right now, and if anyone thinks were close to championship caliber your dullisional.

Another Jerry, tight end, come on hawks.

Never say Never. Look at what happened with T.O. in Dallas and Randy Moss in New England. The same could happen with Shockey in Seattle. There really isn't much out there, draft or other, TE-wise, and the ones currently on the roster suck, so maybe this is worth the risk, providing we don't have to give up too much?

We really need a quality TE. With that said, didn't we learn our lesson with Jeremy Stevens? I think Shockey could end up being more of a distraction than a quality addition. I say get a TE from the draft and get a rent a receiver by trade (except Chad Johnson -for the same reason as Shockey). Go Hawks! And good luck to Alexander!!

Yup...I'm pretty sure that New England really feels bad about that whole Randy Moss trade. I mean he is just killer on the team chemistry.

Simply put...if the Seahawks chemsitry is so "amazing" then it would be able to withstand Shockey and force him to change his ways (this is proven time and again by the Patriots)...

Do not do it Seattle! He is bad energy! As well as injury prone.

I was waiting anxiously for us to trade up in 2002 and get Shockley... it almost happened, the Giants beat us out by a nose. I was so disappointed.... then we traded down, and got nothing for it - a second round prospect in the late first round who did nothing but drop super bowl passes. That said, I would really be concerned if we gave up much for Shockley now due to his attitude and definitely being prone to injury. I agree with what some have said, that there is probably nothing to this: He's not the type Ruskell goes after....

i like it. The hawks need some swagger and star power on offense, and that is exactly what shockey could bring. We no longer have our stars from the superbowl run on offense except for Hass. Get someone that will run people over and make wimpy corners scared to tackle.

I BELIEVE THAT IF THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS GET TO TRADE A PLAYER OR OFFER MONEY OR GIVE UP THERE DRAFT PICK TO GET JEREMY SHOCKEY THAT HE WILL BE WHAT THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS ARE MISSING A DESCENT TIGHT END AND SHOCKEY IS A STAR ATHLETE AND MAKES BIG PLAY WHEN YOU NEED THEM MOST AND HAS STRONG AND FAST MOVEMENTS. HE WILL BE PERFECT FOR THE SEAHAWKS LINEUP AND THERE PASSING OFFENSE.

You are an idiot if you would give up 3 picks for this guy! No way in hell would he be a good fit for our team.

Shockey would be a mistake. Granted there are not very many TE out there in free agency right now, and the draft class is not that great either. If I were Ruskell, I would look at trading maybe a 1st and 3rd round pick to Miami for Jason Taylor. Or possibly a conditional pick or 2 next year if you don't like the 3rd round pick. Then look for a TE in the later rounds of the draft or get Heller some stick-um. :) Can you imagine JT on one end and Kerney on the other?

those that want Shockey here to add swagger and make all the big tightend plays need to look at the history of the Giants during the last three years. He will refuse to practice with the team, and wants to be in Miami. He will get injured often. He is a loud mouth that will interfere with the solidarity of the team. Eli was a head case with him on the team, then brilliant when he was shockey was off the team. We do not need any thing to mess with Matt's already vulnerable head. Let some dead team be worse with him. We do not need him.

Until they started winning last year, everyone on the Giants was labeled a whiner and a crybaby. It sells papers. The Seahawks better catch some lightning in a bottle, because they have no receivers with size and speed. Say what you will, when healthy Shockey has games where he dominates defenses, breaking their backs.

I hate his attitude, but the Seahawks are on the cusp of being an above average team. They need another dimension on offense. If not Shockey, who will provide that?

The only TE guy from NFL I would love to have is Gonzalez but ain't happening because he's staying put with KC..

Otherwise draft and re-work with rest of our TE

Hawks, stop the insanity, draft a TE, stop buying here today gone tomorrow quick fixes, that's not long term thinking.

Forget Shockey. What about making a play for Jason Taylor? That would make our defense elite.

I would never pick up a guy like Shockey.... He would not fit in to our system at all.

If we don't draft a TE, then Shockey could be a great addition. Look, the WCO is at its best with a great pass-catching TE (well, most offenses are but especially the WCO because of the short-step drops and quick throws).

Like the rest of you, I'd like to get back on top of the NFC again, and Shockey is hardly the guy who can destroy a team. Stevens didn't, and he was a head case AND a crappy player.

Hell to tha NO! The Giants couldn't send JS and all their draft picks this year for this to make sense. JS gives 'cancer' a bum rap, cancer doesn't deserve to be sullied by the comparison.

Wow, did you see Danny O'Neill's Mock Draft...how did you get the job as covering the Seahawks man?! Seahawks picking a DE as a first rounder is not going to happen! Kerney signed a big contract - he'll be a starter for awhile. And Tapp has improved every year and is very young. DE is not even a need for our team. What a terrible mock draft.

Did anyone read the top 5 Seahawk draft busts? I would think Bosworth would qualify as a top 5 bust. More so then Neihus.

Hope we do well this weekend. NOT SURE about Shockey, another Jeremy Stevens if you think about it. More trouble then he's worth.

To other fans of so called "shocky fans":

I told you so - Shocky is no fit in this team period - his attitude and character doesn't fit in this team period!

Gonzalez would fit perfectly but too bad - no deal possible..
