Seahawks to sign K Olindo Mare
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Kicker Olindo Mare is expected to sign with the Seahawks. The Web site Profootballtalk.com first reported the two sides reached an agreement on a two-year, $3.5 million deal.
Mare is 34 and coming off a season in which he was hampered by an injury and made 57 percent of his field-goal attempts for New Orleans. The Saints released him in February. For his career, he has made just under 80 percent of his attempts.
Seattle will announce the signing on Thursday.
Mare played 10 years with Miami before the Dolphins traded him to New Orleans for a sixth-round draft choice in April 2007.

Boo... we could draft and sign some younger, more talented undrafted free agents that would do better... possibly even Alexis Serna out of Oregon State would be better...

We better give him some young competition because 80% just aint cutting it i dont care if he is give 30% touchbacks. You know how many games in the last couple of season have come down to field goals. Not sure myself but its alot.

What happens if the 'hawks cut him and sign a rookie? Do they eat the money?

As long as there was no guaranteed monies involved with his contract it was a great move. He's the best FA Kicker left. Let him come in and compete with another drafted rookie, and if we cut him we dont lose anything. Great stratigic move!
But If we gave hime any guaranteed money......All I can say is, Rusell You Are A TOTAL MORON!

My guess is that there will be some kind of a signing bonus to get him to come here over Denver. Hopefully no more than 500k though.

This guy is the Anti Brown. He misses 50 yarders all the time, but he also kicks a touchback about 30% of the time. He is going to make the D look even better. Hopefully we will only need him for extra points anyway!
