Mike Wahle's deal
Posted by Jose Romero
This one is for a blog reader (you know who you are) who asked about Mike Wahle's contract. It's a five-year deal worth $16 million in base salaries, according to the NFL Players Association salary database. I have yet to get the signing bonus figure, which would be the biggest remaining piece in the total value of the deal and probably pushes it up to the neighborhood of $20 million.
Translation: Mike Wahle is getting paid well, but still at around where the typical starting NFL guard is compensated. He's scehduled to make $2 million in base salary this season and $3.1 million each in 2009 and 2010. But he still saves the Seahawks money over prized free-agent-to-be guard Alan Faneca, who wants closer to Steve Hutchinson money at at least $7 million annually.

Jose - what's up with his shoulder? I doubt the Hawks are going to give dude $16M + SB with a bum shoulder - but a couple of things I have read said this guy has lost quite a bit of strength and has a chronic bum shoulder - Got any details? Thanks and I'll take your answer off the air.

Any knowledge on what type of money Ryan Lilja is going to attract? Undrafted free-agent I think has proven he can get the job done at only 26

Thanks for posting the info I requested, Jose.
It appers someone(s) will have to be cut to keep the Seahawks under the salary cap after this move, and, especially, after they put the franchise tag on Trufant.
On a side note: For those who haven't seen this, this clip is a great interview with Tim Ruskell regarding the Seahawks scouting procedures during the combine:
