Turf talk
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The Public Stadium Authority on Friday unanimously approved a resolution to replace the playing surface at Qwest Field. The replacement was initially to be considered in March, but a special meeting was called to accommodate the six-week window necessary to install the turf. The field will be replaced at some point before an event featuring the Dalai Lama on April 12.
The playing surface was considered one of the best in the league, but Seahawks vice president and lead counsel Lance Lopes said the surface had hardened somewhat. It also had faded and frayed. The surface is suitable for hosting an MLS team, which is expected to begin play in 2009.

Before this thread gets going, let's have a brief history lesson.
Paul Allen Promised us grass because he WANTED grass.
Paul Allen paid to install the then brand new product "Field Turf" at Husky Stadium in exchange for the Seahawks playing there.
The PLAYERS loved the Field Turf so much that the lobbied hard and convinced Paul Allen to put in Field Turf at the new Stadium.
The players felt that the turf was better on their knees than grass and more predictable in inclement weather. In short, Field Turf is safer than grass in our climate and more durable, allowing for multiple events in rapid succession.
Can we please not have a thread about how the "Greedy Paul Allen" refused to put grass in even though he promised to. This is about player safety and return on a public investment.

Shaun will fall well on the new turf after a 1 yard loss.

Danny, here's another surprise for you. I gave you the Mora story. Now I give you the Zorn story.

We have been rooting for Jim Zorn for over 30 years and love him with all of our "Hawk Heart" -- but I do not believe he is ready for a head coaching job. Just another example of Snyder's horrible decision making.

burg - my comment wasn't directed at you in any way. I've just had to listen to so much revisionist history about the two stadiums in this town and one of the big lies is the one about how Paul Allen broke his promise to build a grass stadium to save money. I just wanted to get the facts in at the top of the thread before things snowballed. Sorry if it sounded like I was attacking you.

Paul Allen probably has all the grass he wants, I think it's time for him to start sharing!

Note- Qwest Field getting new turf, while Husky Stadium using same turf that was installed initially with Paul Allen money. Still hasn't been re-painted, either. They're going to use that thing until the middle of the field has a hole in it. Another example of how there is not enough money going into that program.
Husky stadium turf gets probably 3x the use of Qwest...

Washington St, government is busy spending our tax dollars on hiking trails, homes for unwanted over the hill lesbians, to spend a dollar on a money making Husky stadium! Spend money on something that will actually make money....how bazar.
