Press Here
This news media blog explores the nexus between the press, the public and technology with two missions.
One, to engage citizens in an online conversation about the role of the news media in their lives, in the hope that they will use and critique the media more effectively. And secondly to explore how the press can remain relevant, essential and accountable to citizens and communities.
Mike Fancher is Editor at Large of The Seattle Times.

Shining the light on your government
Posted by Mike Fancher
Today's Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer include a 4-page section about open government. While it is intended for use in high-school classrooms, the section is useful reading for all citizens.
The section was prepared by the Newspaper in Education (NIE) department of The Seattle Times Company and the Washington Coalition for Open Government (WCOG). The Coalition solicited funding from Allied Daily Newspapers of Washington, the Society of Professional Journalists, Davis Wright Tremaine law firm, the Washington Secretary of State, the Washington State Auditor, Washington News Council, Allied Law Group and Washington Policy Center.
Over all, more than 34,000 newspapers will go to more than 2,300 NIE classrooms today. The section's content was written by NIE program specialist Elizabeth Duffell in collaboration with WCOG Outreach Committee chair Patience Rogge.
An electronic version of the section will soon be available on the WCOG Web site: The Times' NIE site or The P-I's NIE site.
