Which are really the top-10 volleyball teams in the state in Class 4A and 3A? Ask me in two weeks, and I could answer without debate (well, little debate anyway) as the state tournaments will be over and trophies awarded one through eight for each.
This is a tough week because some teams already have started their district tournaments and others have not. It's going to be interesting to see how things sort out in WesCo 4A, for instance.
If you didn't see it, Lewis and Clark beat Mead again in their district tournament, 3-2. So L-C still holds onto that top spot. And Kamiakin blanked Southridge, 3-0. Only three of those teams can make the state tournament. I'm thinking Southridge will be left home, but we'll see.
It was difficult deciding which SPSL 4A team to rank behind Kentwood -- Curtis, Puyallup or Rogers. I went with Curtis based on the win over previously ranked Olympia. The Vikings are hot right now. But I could see Puyallup or Rogers in there just as easily. Rogers in particular is a team I could see taking home some hardward from state.
At any rate, here's what we'll go with for our final rankings for 2008:
1. Lewis and Clark (Spokane)
2. Kentwood (Covington)
3. Mead (Spokane)
4. Kamiakin (Kennewick)
8. Skyview (Vancouver)
9. Curtis (University Place)
10. Southridge (Kennewick)
Others (alphabetically) -- Bellarmine Prep, Bothell, Issaquah, Kentlake, Marysville-Pilchuck, Olympia, Puyallup, Rogers (Puyallup), Snohomish.
2. Shorecrest (Shoreline)
3. Mercer Island
4. Auburn Mountainview
6. East Valley (Spokane)
7. Eastside Catholic (Sammamish)
8. Bishop Blanchet
9. Mount Spokane
10. Union (Vancouver)
Others (alphabetically) -- Bonney Lake, Camas, Everett, Lakes, Mount Si (Snoqualmie), Prairie, Shadle Park.
