Week 4 football rankings
Posted by Tom Wyrwich
Some thoughts on this week's rankings:
-Bellevue coach Butch Goncharoff told me it was "a joke" that his team was ranked No. 1 last night after his team hung on against California High, and I understand where he's going with that. Bellevue is committing too many penalties and making a few too many mistakes (the last minute of the first half last night was a great example). That doesn't change the fact that no one -- not even a big, physical, disciplined team like Cal High -- has stopped the Bellevue offense. I'm not so sure anyone will.
-Welcome to the top five, West Seattle. You earned it. And I won't be surprised if you're still in the top five a month from now.
-Don't expect Meadowdale, shocked this weekend by Mountlake Terrace, to be out of the top 10 for long.
-Lewis & Clark lost to Central Valley, and there are simply too many good 3-0 teams in 4A to keep the Tigers in the top 10. The new teams to the top 10 in 4A are Central Valley and Southridge of Kennewick, which beat Moses Lake 33-3 on Friday. Ferris, meanwhile, beat Mead 34-0 and takes the second spot. Through three weeks, the No. 2 team in our 4A top 10 is 1-2. Just sayin', Ferris. Just sayin'.
