Fans in blue and white started filling the visitor stands at Bellevue almost two hours before kickoff Friday night. Few teams travel as well as Bothell. But it only took Bellevue about half an hour after kickoff to quiet the them down.

Bellevue's first half against Bothell was about as dominating as it gets: Bellevue led 24-0 and had 228 rushing yards to Bothell's 11. Bellevue converted a great fake punt play and turned two Bothell turnovers into 14 points.

When it ended with a 38-19 Bellevue win, my first thought was about how tough it will be for anyone to beat this Wolverine team this season. Because even when Bothell made the right, disciplined read against Bellevue's wing-T offense, Wolverine runner Peter Nguyen is a difficult kid to bring down. He has seven touchdowns so far in seven games.

This wasn't exactly the marquee game it had looked like it would be this be this summer, only because these two teams are in different place. Bellevue might be the best team in the state, but Bothell's still figuring out where it stands after having remarkable back-to-back seasons.

By the end, Bothell coach Tom Bainter had to walk away feeling better than he did a week ago. Because Bothell came back in the second half, made a little run at it, and that wasn't all second-stringers out there for Bellevue. After going scoreless for more than four consecutive quarters,a that Bothell offense finally broke free a bit.

These other teams have to be feeling better about themselves after Friday night:

Auburn. The Trojans took control of the SPSL North with a 28-7 win against Kentwood. They now own wins against Federal Way and Kentwood, so it will be hard for either of those teams to overtake Auburn. As Sandy Ringer noted last night, everyone's contributing on that Auburn team, which is ranked sixth in 4A.

Archbishop Murphy. Watch out, Prosser. The Wildcats look like an elite 2A team after opening the season with wins against Lynden and Eastside Catholic.

Cascade. With a 27-15 win against Kamiak, Cascade is 2-0. It beat Oak Harbor last week, and it looks like it will be right there with Edmonds-Woodway in the WesCo 4A South.

Marysville-Pilchuck and Lake Stevens.Lake Stevens won its first meeting with Glacier Peak, and Marysville-Pilchuck got a big win against Snohomish. The two teams meet Oct. 10.

Juanita. The Rebels got a big 34-21 win against Redmond, and appear ready to get going in their KingCo 3A schedule next week.

Morning stars

1. Matt Malos, Interlake, football. Sophomore threw for 433 yards and seven touchdowns in what had to be an exciting 53-48 win against Yelm. Receiver Dylan Amell had 12 catches for 303 yards.

2. Nick Baker, Lake Stevens, football. Set school records with 341 yards passing and 407 yards of total offense, and he had four TDs, too, in a 35-21 win against Glacier Peak.

3. Din Kuses, Edmonds-Woodway, football. Caught 10 passes for 203 yards and two TDs to help the Warriors beat Everett 21-7.

4. Taylor Angevine, Kentlake, football. Scored on a a 14-yard touchdown run to give Kentlake an overtime win against Kent-Meridian.

5. Jake Heaps, Skyline, football. Had three passing touchdowns and two running touchdowns in a 56-5 win against Ballard.

Today's game to watch

Tualiltan (Ore.) vs. Issaquah, girls soccer, 5 p.m. at Eastlake High School. In the past four years, these two teams are the winningest in their state.
