Preseason all-state team
Posted by Tom Wyrwich
So we continue looking toward the football season today with the Times' preseason all-state team, which will be released in tomorrow's paper. Some picks were not difficult -- Tony Heard, Gino Simone and Deandre Coleman -- and even a couple of juniors -- Jake Heaps and Larry Dixon -- were nearly automatic picks after the seasons they had as sophomores.
Defensive backs were difficult to pick, with about 10 who seemed worthy, and it's rarely easy to pick the top offensive linemen. There's about 15 or 20 guys I'm heartbroken to leave off, but we only pick 26 guys, and that's how it goes.
We went through several drafts and sought many opinions, and this is the finished product:
OFFENSE
QB Jake Heaps, Skyline (Sammamish), 6-2, 195, Jr.
RB Tony Heard, Edmonds-Woodway, 5-10, 225, Sr.
RB Larry Dixon, Olympic (Bremerton), 6-0, 200, Jr.
WR Kirby Moore, Prosser, 6-3, 205, Sr.
WR Gino Simone, Skyline (Sammamish), 6-0, 175, Sr.
TE Travis Long, Gonzaga Prep (Spokane), 6-4, 235, Sr.
OL Grant Enger, O’Dea, 6-6, 250, Sr.
OL Danny Kistler, O’Dea, 6-7, 315, Sr.
OL Anthony Luna, Gonzaga Prep (Spokane), 6-4, 275, Sr.
OL Jackson Pierce, Bothell, 6-0, 230, Sr.
OL Hunter Blackmore, Kentwood (Covington), 6-3, 250, Sr.
K Anthony Arena, Inglemoor (Kenmore), 5-11, 170, Sr.
All-purpose Kyrell Hudson, Evergreen (Vancouver), 6-0, 185, Sr.
