League Power Rankings

Posted by Zach Landres-Schnur

Times reporters get quite territorial over their coverage zones. Blog Daddy Tom is always saying that KingCo 3A and 4A are the best leagues in the area. I push hard for WesCo. Sandy loves the SPSL and Seamount.

So rather than argue in circles, let's have you guys chime in.

What's the best league in the area? Feel free to break it down by sport or just give an overview.

The leagues:

KingCo
WesCo
Metro
SPSL
Seamount
Cascade
Nisqually
Emerald City
Sea-Tac
Northwest 2B/1A

Make your case in the comments!

Tonight's top games:

1. State soccer!

As a graduate from the 3A ranks of this conference. I think that it would be hard to say that the 3A KingCo conference is by far the best when it comes to Football and baseball. Thanks to the runs of Bellevue ( Football) and Skyline, Issaquah, Newport, and Liberty in Baseball over the last decade!

Zach what do you think?

wow. it's so tough...

in football, kingco 3a and 4a are both awfully good.
basketball, the metro league and SPSL North have been very competitive lately. in baseball, i really think WesCo (my coverage area!) is pretty darn good.

if I had to go overall, the kingco 3a and 4a are pretty even across the board -- good football, baseball, softball, soccer, boys/girls hoops.

It depends on which sport you are talking about. The Metro league is certainly the s trongest league not only in the area but in the state for basketball. Kinco I would imagine is the best for football.

It is hands down kingoco 3a. They are the power house in three sports. Football-Bellevue. Baseball-newport issaquah liberty. Softball- liberty and sammamish. No other conference has 3 sports with dominance like kingco3a

Well i think that the semount is the strongest because for one hazen soccer won state last year, haen baseball made state this year, andrey levkiv in track and field also sophmore duncan mckay but in other sports we have always in the playoffs kennedy football and renton basketball and kennedy's girls softball team is good so dont sleep on the seamount league

As far as 4A state tournaments in each sport, these leagues have the best teams. In order...

1. King Co
2. Greater Spokane League
3. Narrows League
4. WesCo North
5. SPSL-South
6. Big Nine
7. SPSL-North
8. WesCo South
9. Greater Saint Helens

No doubt it's KingCo for football. 4A Has sent a team to the championship for 5 straight years and 3A has sent a team to the championship 8 of the last 9.

Seamount won 3A boys soccer, boys swim, 4th in girls swim I believe, this year 2nd in girls basketball, 4th and 7th in boys basketball, two teams in state baseball this year, 2nd in football. While KingCo may win football and baseball, they don't win in it in soccer, wrestling, swimming or basketball. In fact was KingCo represented in the top 8 in boys basketball this year?

no love for metro!

i think without a doubt, especially in the last 10 years, metro has been the strongest in both baseball and basketball. you've got to look at the players that have come out of the league as well as strong representation at the state level.

As far as 3A goes I believe Metro is by the best all around league in the state. In every sport from cross country and tennis to basketball and football Metro always has some of the top teams in the state. While the Private schools are what make Metro so competitive across the board, I think the wide diversity between the private & public schools is what makes it such a special league. KingCo 3A is also extremely competitive but that league lacks the diversity that makes Metro so unique. I find watching a Rainier Beach-Seattle Prep basketball game much more interesting that watching a Bellevue-Issaquah game.

I dont know about the other sports, but for soccer, wesco is by far the toughest, and the most competitive.

It's a shame that the Auburn schools and Enumclaw left the SPSL north. If they would've stayed part of the SPSL North, the SPSL north wouldve been the best football league in the state for the last couple of years regardless of class.

What about the Cascade Conference? OK, it is a pretty weak league in most sports but as far as sportsmanship, class and instilling values in their student-athletes? Nevermind.

The Wesco leage is by far the toughest out of all of these divisions. In boys soccer, softball and baseball.

Hazen09, you have GOT to be kidding if you think Seamount is the toughest in the state. Sure, a few teams have gotten lucky and made it to the big dance over the years but they are not perrenial powerhouses like KingCo and Metro teams. Seamount feeds into West Central District, which is a smoother road to state for some teams than the what KingCo and Metro teams have to go through. Why, look at Hazen's baseball. One win at West Central and they're automatically in State. They will have their hands full against Issaquah tomorrow. Granted, teams like Kennedy have done well, but they have their top talent coming from far and wide. Put Seamount teams up against KingCo./Metro from the get go and it would be a tough uphill battle. I would also say that WestCo is right behind the KingCo/Metro teams.

The SPSL is the best all around if you look at every sport.
